Police seek volunteers

The call has gone out for volunteers to provide counter service at Mosgiel police station.

Clutha-Taieri area response manager Senior Sergeant Alastair Dickie, of Mosgiel, said staff on the front counter at the station worked part-time from 10am-2pm on weekdays.

''Some of the local people have expressed dissatisfaction about that so we are trying to improve our service.''

The volunteers would attend the station counter and duties would include taking messages and lost and found reports.

Basic training would be given to successful applicants after vetting. An ideal applicant would be a retiree with time flexibility, he said.

• To volunteer, call Snr Sgt Dickie or Sgt Kevin Davidson on 489-3534.

• To report a crime such as burglary, thefts, motor vehicle theft, and non urgent historic crime, call the Crime Reporting Line on 0800 426-7736.
