Concern as guns stolen

A forensic unit examined a property north of Dunedin yesterday after a cache of firearms was stolen.

Senior Sergeant Ben Butterfield, of Dunedin, said ''a number of'' firearms, including shotguns and .22 calibre rifles, were stolen from a property in Evansdale overnight on Monday.

The burglary was a ''significant concern'' to police, Snr Sgt Butterfield said.

Up to four chainsaws were also stolen from the property, he said.

Police were also investigating two burglaries in Brighton where kindling was stolen from a yard and petrol siphoned from a vehicle on Brighton Rd between 7.30am on Sunday and 2.30pm Tuesday.

Several vehicles were recently damaged in Kaikorai Valley and a storage facility on Kaikorai Valley Rd was broken into leaving six vehicles damaged, between Friday and Monday.
