An exhibition of Aramoana's history ended its ninth annual run yesterday, and the event that started as a millennium project will be continued.

Aramoana League committee member Gordon Tocher said the exhibition in the coastal settlement near Dunedin ran thanks to a grant from the Chalmers Community Board.

It covered aspects of the community's history, from the building of the mole to the fight against the Aramoana smelter.

"We just raided all sorts of photo collections, the Hocken Library, and the Port Chalmers museum," Mr Tocher said.

The result shed light on some interesting aspects of Aramoana's history.

"People forget all the history."

The exhibition, in the Aramoana Hall, had expanded as people dropped in their own photos each year.

It was one of a series of summer events in the community, including children's days, sports days and quiz nights.
