Taiwan would be ''completely open to China'' under the controversial Cross-Strait trade services agreement between the countries, he said yesterday at a peaceful protest event in the Octagon.
Attended by about 30 people, the protest was one of many around the world yesterday.
The trade deal was signed without public scrutiny or democratic process, he said. Mr Fan, who lives in Dunedin, said the deal removed barriers and Taiwan could see a flood of Chinese service-sector workers entering the country.
The concern over the lack of democratic process was similar to that expressed in New Zealand about the controversial Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement, he said.
