Joshua Perry is setting his sights high in his new role as marketing co-ordinator of Stopping Violence Dunedin.

The 23-year-old, who has cerebral palsy, hopes to re-brand the organisation to attract private sponsorship to support its work.

He was welcomed to the new role yesterday with a powhiri.

Mr Perry, originally from Auckland, recently completed a diploma in marketing at Otago Polytechnic.

He will work 20 hours a week in the newly created role.

''We're hoping to get money from the private sector to help expand the organisation over the coming year.''

The biggest challenge in the new role was expected to be getting out and about in the community.

''It is an honour to be a part of this fantastic organisation and I look forward to working with my new colleagues as we take Stopping Violence into the future.''

Mr Perry's personal assistant, Jane Boreham, is also a board member at Stopping Violence Dunedin.

Mr Perry would also modernise the organisation's image with a website, and Facebook page.

The organisation provides anti-violence counselling in both groups and individually.
