It is the first time in the centre's almost 20-year history that new turf has been laid, facilities manager Richard Wood says.
''Basically, the old turf ... is well worn out and past its life expectancy,'' he said.
While some of the work was completed in February and July last year, the complete re-turfing would be finished by the end of January.
The project had cost about $500,000, he said.
