Otago Peninsula Trust administrator Jo Harvey with a broken gnome used to welcome children to Glenfalloch's annual gnome hunt.
It was damaged irreparably after being knocked over by a child on Wednesday.
Miss Harvey said the 89cm gnome was popular with children, who were often photographed beside it before taking part in the hunt.
The gnome was one of many donated to Glenfalloch following a public appeal, and Miss Harvey hoped another large-size gnome not in use might be donated for the purpose.
