The Southern District Health Board is evaluating expressions of interest in building a parking building on the new Dunedin Hospital site.
Last month the board called for proposals to build and operate a parking building as a joint venture.
Board finance executive director Nigel Trainor did not say how many organisations had responded to the tender, but said the SDHB would assess the applications this week.
‘‘The next stage will be to document a full request for proposal that will go out to a selected number of respondents,’’ he said.
Few specifics of the project have been released, including where on the two-block inner city site the car park might be built.
‘‘The exact site will be determined during the current master site planning process, which is due for completion by start of quarter two in 2022,’’ tender documents seen by the Otago Daily Times said.
‘‘However, it is anticipated that it will be situated very close to the new Dunedin Hospital building and will be part of the wider Health Precinct.’’
The document noted a capacity for 250 or more vehicles.
‘‘The SDHB has not completed any analysis, from a commercial basis, of the number of additional car parks required. However, as per the registration of interest documents, it is anticipated that at least another 250 parks would be provided in a car parking building.’’
The hospital complex’s smaller outpatient building is expected to open in 2025; the larger inpatient building should open in 2028.
‘‘The process will take a number of months to complete.’’
The Ministry of Health is now seeking consent for foundations and ground works for the new hospital, but it appears the car park would probably require separate consent.
