Secrecy surrounds superyacht

A superyacht moored in central Dunedin will be here for the next few weeks.

Flying the Maltese ensign alongside the New Zealand flag, the 40m Be Mine motored into Otago Harbour about 2pm on Sunday.

A custom-built yacht which first weighed anchor in 1991, according to superyachts.com, Be Mine sleeps up to eight guests in four suites.

A spokesman from Port Otago harbour control said the steel-hulled yacht would be berthed at the Kitchener St wharf for the next two weeks.

He did not know the purpose of the occupants' visit.

It was reported last year the yacht was owned by a European businessman.

Formerly called Leonora, Be Mine underwent an extensive refit at Oceania Marine Shipyards in Whangarei last year.

A spokesman for the company said the work was subject to confidentiality agreements and the company could not disclose the owner's name or origin.
