Tickets to Ed Sheeran's two Dunedin shows have all but sold out, promoter Brent Eccles, of Frontier Touring says.

About 80,000 tickets to the Dunedin shows sold out after general tickets went on sale at 2pm. Some fans reported being unable to buy tickets online as early as 2.15pm.

Pre-sales for Sheeran's first concert sold out within 20 minutes last week.

The response had been "massive", however a few sight line tickets could be made available closer to the March 29 and 31st Dunedin shows, Mr Eccles said.

The sight line tickets could come from space normally used by production staff, he said.

A decision on whether to release the extra tickets would be made closer to the concerts.
