Youth Week was launched in Dunedin with a skate jam at Forsyth Barr Stadium on Saturday.

Quest manager Craig Strong said the clothing store helped organise the jam with the Dunedin City Council Youth Action Committee.

About 50 skaters participated. The event had no age restriction, Mr Strong said: ''As long as you are young at heart.''

Dunedin bands Summer Thieves and The Sleeves performed.

''Nek minnit'' skater Levi Hawken, of Auckland, a special guest at the jam, said he was enjoying his Dunedin visit.

''I love it down here - it's like coming home.''

The skate jam was the first time he had skated at the stadium.

''It's an awesome surface. The two ingredients of open space and smooth ground are amazing.''

Youth Week recognises the contributions and achievements of young people.
