Contractors Gavin Wilson (left) and Rhys Henderson, from IT H2O Blasting, give the railing on the Esplanade at St Clair its three-monthly waterblast yesterday.
Dunedin City Council roading maintenance manager Peter Standring said the fence, light poles and steps on the sea wall at the Esplanade were cleaned regularly to get rid of salt build-up.
A report canvassing the options for protecting the sea wall into the future is expected to go to councillors in February.
The wall was undermined in May last year.
The damage has so far cost the council more than $500,000 to repair, including the replacement of temporary rock protection at the base of the wall.
