Cases of Waikato Draught stolen in Dunedin recently could contain glass, the brewer has warned.
Sometime between Friday and yesterday, a person jumped a fence to get to a loading dock in Rattray St at Speight's Brewery before making off with three 24 packs of beer, Senior Sergeant Trevor Thomson said.
Two of those cases contained Waikato Draught, but the brand of the third was unknown, he said.
''The irony of this is the beer... was being tested and that beer should not be consumed by anybody.''
A Lion spokeswoman said the brewer had a ''small glass breakage'' on a production line at its Auckland manufacturing site.
As a result, some cases of Waikato Draught were isolated and sent to Speight's Brewery in Dunedin for testing as a precaution, she said.
''These bottles were kept aside and sent down to Dunedin so we could use them to run routine checks in the lab there.
''We want to emphasise that the chance of any contamination is minimal; however, product safety is a priority for us, which is why the beers were removed
''We don’t brew Waikato Draught at Speight’s.''
