A man was taken to Dunedin Hospital after he walked straight into the path of a car.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Great King St and Albany St at 3.32pm on Saturday after a pedestrian was struck by a car, Sergeant Matt Lee, of Dunedin, said.

The 20-year-old man mistook the green traffic light for the green walking man and stepped into the road.

As he stepped into the road, he was struck by a turning car, Sgt Lee said.

The driver of the vehicle, another 20-year-old man, said he could not see the man walking into the road because of sunstrike, Sgt Lee said.

A Hato Home St John spokesman said one man was transported to Dunedin Hospital in a moderate condition.
