A controlled burnoff on farmland just south of Allanton, near Dunedin International Airport, attracted a crowd of onlookers this afternoon.
A helicopter dropped aerial incendiaries on the ground to ignite the vegetation near State Highway 1.
The fire was extinguished about 3.30pm.
