Research managing director Ian Taylor has criticised the Government's decision not to include tax credits for research and development in its economic policies.
Mr Taylor said his business had three people regularly working on research and development, and the outcome was contracts like that announced in the Otago Daily Times yesterday; providing graphics for this year's Formula One series for the BBC.
He originally made the remarks on Radio New Zealand National, and said yesterday he had received "so many" emails in support since he did.
Last October, then research, science and technology minister Pete Hodgson said a Labour-led government would introduce a 15% tax credit for research and development, but National decided early on it would scrap the idea, concentrating instead on personal tax cuts in its economic agenda.
Mr Taylor was critical of Act New Zealand party leader Rodney Hide, who described the tax credits as a "rort".
Instead, the credits were "a big deal", and many people were disappointed when they were removed.
He would be less critical of the Government if it had replaced the credits with something else, but that did not appear to be the case.
"It's about time somebody spoke out," he said.
