The provisionally registered teacher, Toni June Finch, disclosed to the school in March this year that she had ''an inappropriate relationship of a sexual nature with a senior student'' in 2015.
Upon making the disclosure, she was immediately suspended and she subsequently resigned from her teaching position at King's, acknowledging that she had overstepped professional boundaries.
Her resignation came as rumours circulated that nude photographs of her were being shared by pupils using social media.
The year 13 pupil involved was offered counselling and given permanent name suppression.
The teacher's case was heard by the New Zealand Teachers' Disciplinary Tribunal and her actions were considered by the tribunal to be ''serious misconduct at a high level''.
Ms Finch also sought permanent name suppression, but the tribunal declined the application.
''The appropriate penalties are censure, cancellation of Ms Finch's registration to teach, and annotation of the teachers' register,'' the tribunal's decision said.
Ms Finch was also ordered to pay 40% of the costs of the tribunal process.
At the time, King's High School rector Dan Reddiex said he was extremely disappointed at the actions of the teacher, but was confident following the school's investigation, that the incident was isolated to one pupil.
Yesterday, he was pleased the issue had been resolved.
''We are confident that the New Zealand Teachers' Disciplinary Tribunal followed a robust process in coming to its decision.
''We are satisfied with the outcome.''
