Another vehicle has been broken into at a popular recreation area car park, the second in two days, police say.
The driver's-side window of a vehicle parked at Tunnel Beach was smashed and a bag, containing a wallet, driver's licence and bank cards, was taken.
Senior Sergeant Liz Waru, of Dunedin, said police were actively patrolling the area in the hope of catching the offenders.
The latest incident, which occurred between 10am and 11.50am on Tuesday, follows the theft of two backpacks from a tourist vehicle on Monday.
‘‘We're trying to locate the people responsible,'' Snr Sgt Waru said.
A car in Angle Ave, Tainui, was also broken into and about $700 cash stolen.
The offenders jemmied the driver's side door and grabbed the cash from the glove compartment, Snr Sgt Waru said.
The person recently sold the vehicle and forgot the money was in there, she said.
‘‘People need to be mindful of their property.
‘‘They need to lock it up and remove any valuables from their vehicles,'' she said.
Anyone with any information about the thefts was asked to contact Dunedin police on (03) 471-4800 or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555-111.
