A mad scramble for toys at a Dunedin retail outlet yesterday may mean Christmas comes early for three Balclutha children.

After entering a sales receipt in a draw earlier this year, Balclutha mother Lynda Crawford won a chance to grab up to $2500 of toys in two minutes at any Warehouse store.

Apart from fulfilling requests - mainly for remote-controlled hovercraft - from her children Liam (14), Matthew (12), and Abigael (10), she also collected several family board games.

She had a professional interest in the items she snatched from shelves and stuffed into several trolleys.

For the past five years, she has been supervisor of the Balclutha toy library.

It is likely some of the toys would go to the facility, which is run from the town's library, she said.

"I will probably drip-feed the kids the presents and save a few for Christmas," she said.

Although there is Warehouse in Balclutha, acting store manager Colin Hutchinson said Mrs Crawford travelled to Dunedin's larger store for the two-minute spree.

Mrs Crawford visited the Dunedin store at the weekend to inspect the toy department, and to decide which items to grab.

Her careful planning paid off.

When the contents of the shopping trolleys were tallied, it was found Mrs Crawford had grabbed toys valued at $2484.57.
