Heavy rain and a blocked drain caused severe surface flooding in Centennial Ave, in the Dunedin suburb of Helensburgh last night.
Roslyn Fire Station Officer Kate Hill said fire appliances were called to the area about 10.45pm.
The water was about 0.5m deep in the street and was flowing through the basements of properties at No 10 and No 12 Centennial Ave, she said.
"It was on the verge of going over my boots, so I didn't venture into the middle."
No major damage was reported, and the matter was left with the Dunedin City Council to deal with, she said.
