The two takahe chicks missing in Orokonui Ecosanctuary have been found.
Ecosanctuary general manager Chris Baillie said staff saw the chicks, which had fled the nest, with foster parents Paku (13) and her mate, Quammen (15).
The adult takahe had nested on two fertile eggs taken from a takahe breeding centre near Te Anau and the eggs were expected to hatch last week.
When ecosanctuary ranger Kelly Gough went to check on the new arrivals earlier this week, the nest was empty.
However, the chicks were seen in the ecosanctuary yesterday.
''We have to ask the public to give them lots of space for the next month,'' Ms Baillie said.
