The large balloons, into which children climbed, floated in a swimming pool. Good weather attracted about 3000 to the family fun day, Mosgiel Community Board chairman Barry Barbour said.
''The weather has been brilliant. It would have to be one of our more successful days.''
The day included entertainment, stalls, activities and the Outram fire brigade gave children the chance to have a go with its hose.
Many spread out a blanket or set up a chair to enjoy the entertainment while children enjoyed the delights of a fair - candy floss, lollies and a ride or two.
It begins a week of activities including a quarter-mile sprint on Wednesday and a Friday market.
