Children watch the trains go round on one of the model railways on show at the Dunedin Model Train Show at Forbury Park at the weekend.
Convener Trevor Buchanan said it was hoped to create new train enthusiasts by exposing the public to the very best model railways on offer.
"The hobby has a unique ability to bring the family together in activities that teach many skills."
Skills used by hobbyists ranged from carpentry and electrical engineering to artistry and historical research.
