The Dunedin couple used the time when their 9-month-old boy Ezra was asleep to read books by the fire in their family crib, as thunderstorms and hail passed outside.
''It's about all you can do on a day like this ... We had a white lawn for a little while,'' Mr Dunstan said.
The lakeside crib was about 19km from State Highway 87, nearly halfway to Middlemarch from Dunedin.
When the weather improved, Mr Dunstan planned to fish for trout on the lake.
''The trouts aren't like the ones out of the river, they are not quite as lean and feisty but they still put up a bit of a fight and we like eating them,'' Mr Dunstan said.
