Two Delta contractors escaped injury when their truck fell down a bank on during a weed-spraying operation yesterday.

Senior Constable Dave Bell, of Green Island, said it appeared the driver of the weed-spraying truck had gone too close to the edge of the "narrow dirt road" and the vehicle had slid off.

The contractors scrambled out of the cab and called for help.

Delta contractors at the scene declined to discuss the accident or the contractors' work.

A St John paramedic said the two men were taken to Dunedin Hospital for a check-up.

Snr Const Bell said the men appeared to have minor neck and elbow injuries and one had complained of a sore chest.

McIntosh Rd resident Silvia Bekker-Finke, who lives near the accident site, said the dirt road was in a state of disrepair after recent heavy rain and its use for the Rally of Otago.

A council truck had graded the road soon after the accident, she said.
