A Dunedin man and woman have been remanded on bail to next month by a Dunedin District Court registrar after an alleged crime spree on Wednesday evening that included a woman being dragged along a Dunedin supermarket car park.
Christine Daphne McLaren (21), of Dunedin, is charged with robbing a woman of a handbag and contents on Wednesday.
She is also jointly charged with Grant Robert Butler (23), of Dunedin, with stealing a bottle Opal Nera, and one GPS and charger, valued at $120, on Wednesday.
Sergeant Nathan White, of Dunedin, said police were called to Countdown supermarket in central Dunedin at 5.50pm on Wednesday when people in a Honda Accord allegedly tried to snatch a handbag from a woman who was loading groceries into a car.
"Without stopping their car, the offenders have tried to grab the bag . . . the woman has held on to her bag [and] had subsequently been dragged along the ground by the vehicle.''
Sgt Matt Scoles, of Dunedin, said the bag-snatch victim suffered minor abrasions and managed to retain her wallet after it fell out of the handbag during the struggle.
Sgt Scoles said about an hour later, alcohol was allegedly stolen from a car parked outside of Cableways Tavern in Kaikorai Valley.
Sgt White said the offenders drove from Mellor St at speed and police stopped the Honda Accord soon after and apprehended a man and woman.
