Woman hurt, dog missing from crash

A woman was last night in a stable condition in Dunedin Hospital while a scared dog was on the run, after a car rolled on the outskirts of Dunedin yesterday.

The woman was cut from a silver sedan by firefighters about 5.20pm on Brighton Rd, near Blackhead Rd.

Lookout Point Fire Station Officer Martin Jansen said emergency services were alerted to the crash about 5pm before rescuing a "mature woman''.

"She had to be extricated. The roof had to be cut off, the door had to be cut off and we had to use our rescue gear.''

The car seemed to have rolled, Mr Jansen said.

"She appears to have been wearing her seat belt, but the air bags have not deployed. That's all we know at this stage.''

The woman was the only person in the vehicle.

Firefighters were seeking public assistance in finding a dog which was understood to have been in the car.

"It is believed from one of the bystanders that there was a dog in the vehicle that has done a runner. I don't know what kind of dog. It may been injured, got a fright and run home,'' Mr Jansen said.

Two fire vehicles, an ambulance and police attended the incident.
