The family of missing woman Denise Potter were out on central Dunedin streets yesterday delivering leaflets in an attempt to gain any leads on her whereabouts.

Mrs Potter's daughter, Sharelle, said family and friends had divided into five search teams and were delivering missing person leaflets and searching properties, with permission.

Mrs Potter (53), who lives in Alexandra, went missing from her daughter's Carroll St address on Monday afternoon.

Her mother did not have a history of wandering off, Ms Potter said.

Her mother's disappearance was completely out of character, Ms Potter said.

The leaflet asks people to check their properties and gives a description of what Mrs Potter was wearing when she went missing.

Ms Potter said the last time she saw her mother she had not been not wearing shoes, something she thought others might have noticed.

''Someone must have noticed her.''

She said the family and police needed anyone who might have any information, ''no matter how small'', to come forward.

''It's so hard not having any leads.''

Mrs Potter was last seen wearing dark blue denim jeans, a two-toned black and grey, long-sleeved three-quarter buttoned shirt with white cuffs, and no footwear. She is described as slim, with light brown, collar-length hair.

A police spokesman last night said police were still searching for Mrs Potter yesterday, including addresses in Alexandra.

The search will continue today.

Police urge members of the public who may have seen Mrs Potter, or know where she is, to contact the Southern District Command Centre on (03) 471 5002
