A New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) spokesman said the wall would carry a section of the $31 million Dunedin to Port Chalmers walkway/cycleway above the highway and users would be protected by secure fencing.
Made of large concrete panels, the retaining wall provides a perfect opportunity to showcase Dunedin’s creative talent.
NZTA engaged Dunedin artist Simon Kaan to develop the panels (above). The first of these are expected to arrive on site before Christmas.
The project is expected to be completed on schedule, by the second half of 2022.

Why?
Shame it does not include safety improvements for motorists.
I am so looking forward to this! I have done the loop and taken the ferry across from port charmers to portobello a few times but this section is especially tricky and treacherous, and I feel really bad if I hold any motorists up. Will make it much easier and safer for both parties!!
