Putting the finishing touches on a fish lantern ahead of the Midwinter Carnival next month are Jess and Reid Penwarden (11), of Dunedin.

The well-attended workshop was held on the first floor of the Otago Museum at the weekend.

This year's carnival, on June 22, will be themed ``The Never Ending Night'', highlighting the creatures and beauty of the Antarctic.

Other workshops will be held each weekend leading up to the carnival. This weekend's icicle workshop will be held at the Ocean Beach Scout Hall.
