Artist Lee-Ann Dixon, of Nelson, works on one of her artworks at the Dunedin Art Show in the Edgar Centre yesterday.

Using the medium of oil paint on silver trays, Ms Dixon uses her art to explore the themes surrounding Kiwi nostalgia.

"It's kind of like a diary of my life, a lot of it has to do with identity, families and domesticity.''

By yesterday afternoon she had already sold nine works which meant she had already broken even for the weekend.

Art show creative director Kate Morrison said about 900 people attended the opening of the show on Thursday night which boded well for the rest of the weekend.

"I think the special thing about the show is people get to interact with the artists and the artists get to directly engage with the people buying their art.''

More than 100 artists were displaying more than 1000 pieces of artwork and prices ranged from $50 to $6000, so there was something for everyone, Mrs Morrison said.

The show runs until tomorrow.
