Rather than wandering the myriad bar stalls looking for the best brews at today’s sold-out Dunedin Craft Beer & Food Festival, you can now let your fingers do the walking on a new mobile phone app.

The festival organisers have released the full beer and cider list on the beer review app  Untappd.

Event marketing and communications manager Katrina McLennan said the app gave a brief description of the beers and ciders, and a star rating (out of five),  allowing  patrons to make a list of beers to make a beeline for before they arrived at the stadium today.

"You can search our beers by rating, brewery and style, which is super handy when there are so many on offer.

"On the day, they can check in, review the beers they try ... [and] take photos all within the app.

"This is new to the festival and something we’d like to develop in the coming years."

She said the drinks list was the largest to date, with more than 320 individual beers, ciders, wines and spirits on offer.

"We have 60 individual craft breweries represented at the festival and 25 different ciders.

"Of the beers on offer, there are 71 variations of styles/genres. There is everything from Australian sparkling ale to smoked beer, spiced/herb beers, IPAs and sours.

"There are also some beers being brewed especially for the festival, most of which we don’t know any information on as they are surprise editions being brought by the vendors."

And the fun does not stop there.

As well as the glasses of glorious brown fizz, there  would be great food, complemented by classic  Kiwi music, seminars,  games and a full programme for children, she said.

This year, the festival was all about engaging with friends and family, of sharing stories through food and drink, and feeding  basic  human needs to feel happy and alive.
