A front-seat passenger has died and five others have been injured in a head-on crash north of Tuakau near Auckland.

The crash involving two cars was reported at 12.28pm today. Police and emergency services were at the scene on Buckland Rd.

One person has died, two others are critical, two are serious and two had minor injuries.

A rescue helocopter was transporting the most seriously injured to hospital.
