$13m Lotto prize still unclaimed

The winner of the $13 million Christmas lottery draw has yet to claim the prize.

The winning Lotto Powerball ticket, worth $12,991,369, was bought at Magascene in Takapuna on Auckland's North Shore, New Zealand Lotteries' Head of Communications Karen Jones told NZPA.

"We would expect the winner to come forward in the next few days. But it's not uncommon in the holiday period when people are away and forget to check their tickets. So maybe next time they're at the supermarket they will get a huge surprise.

"They can claim at any lotto store that's open or they can ring our New Zealand Lotteries office and speak to one of our operators. We'll be open again from Thursday.

"The ticket still has to travel to Wellington in order for the prize to be paid. So a lot of people choose to bring it themselves to Wellington to be on the safe side," she said.

The ticket could have been bought weeks ago as an early Christmas present, Ms Jones added.

"It could have been purchased for someone for Christmas weeks in advance. We won't know until they show up whether it was a Christmas present or not, but it's a very popular idea to buy tickets for a Christmas present," Ms Jones said.

Two other players each won a $333,333 share of the first division prize on Christmas Day, with the winning tickets sold at Edmonton Stationery and Lotto in Waitakere, and Sweet Lotto Centre, also on the North Shore.
