Police have not been able to identify the man who died in a car crash near Ruakaka on Friday.
The driver was killed when his Toyota Surf rolled several times on SH1 about 3.35pm.
The man was not the car's registered owner and there was confusion about who the driver was.
Police did not want family to see the body due to the "state it was in" so were waiting for fingerprint analysis.
