The owners of a dog which attacked a 7-year-old girl while she was out trick-or-treating have since euthanised the animal.
Auckland Council animal management manager Tracey Moore said the incident happened on a private property in Tasman Drive, Papakura, on Friday night.
The girl had been trick-or-treating on Halloween with an adult.
The dog was a male Rottweiler-cross breed and had no previous history or complaints with the council and was registered, Ms Moore said.
The dog's owners took it to a vet on Saturday morning and it was subsequently euthanised.
The girl suffered bites to her legs in the attack and was taken to Counties Care, where staff advised the family to go to Middlemore Hospital.
She was in a stable condition and had undergone surgery, a hospital spokeswoman said. The girl was due to be discharged today.
An investigation into the attack was ongoing and it had yet yet to be determine whether charges would be laid, Ms Moore said.
In a Facebook post, Lorraine Clement said the girl was trick-or-treating when "a Rottweiler burst through a door and mauled her".
