Fears for German woman

There are fears for the safety of a German woman believed to be tramping in south Marlborough.

Esther Gehrmann left a message in the Mt Starveall hut logbook in the Mt Richmond Ranges on Tuesday, March 10, police said, "the content of which has raised concerns for her welfare".

Police had received good information from the public in relation to Ms Gehrmann, a police spokeswoman said.

Officers had located Ms Gehrmann's car, and now believed she was heading east in the Mt Richmond Ranges, she said.

Three ground search teams, including a search dog, were in the area today.

Anyone who has been in the Lake Challis, Old Man or Goulter regions this week is asked to contact Nelson police on 03 546 3840.
