A meat processing plant near Hastings has been damaged by a fire early today.
Fire crews were called to the Silver Fern Farms meat processing unit in Whakatu, just after 4am, central fire communications shift manager Murray Dunbar said.
The fire was contained to the building's boiler room.
Eight appliances were called to the scene, Mr Dunbar said.
Nobody was reported injured.
The cause of the fire was not yet known, he said.
