Inquiry after body found in Hamilton

Hamilton police are investigating an unexplained death following the discovery of a body in the city today.

The body was found behind properties in Lake Crescent. A member of the public contacted police about 9.40am, police said.

"Police have engaged forensic scientists from ESR to assist and are undertaking enquiries in the area to ascertain further information.

"This is a normal process where the circumstances of a death are not yet able to be explained."

Police are not able to release the name of the deceased at this time as inquiries are ongoing to formalise identification and advise the family.

A post-mortem examination is expected to be completed tomorrow.
