Kiwi grandfather wants to go to Norway for funeral

The devastated New Zealand grandfather of a teenager killed in the Norway shooting rampage last weekend is hoping to attend her funeral.

Sharidyn Svebakk-Bohn, 14, died when right-wing extremist Anders Breivik, killed 68 mainly young people on Utoya Island last Saturday after earlier setting off a bomb in nearby downtown Oslo.

Rex Matthews, father of Ms Svebakk-Bohn's mother, Vanessa, learnt on Wednesday his grand-daughter was dead. She had been reported missing immediately after the massacre.

Sharidyn was born in Palmerston North but moved with her parents to Norway while a baby. She held dual New Zealand and Norwegian citizenship.

A relation of Mr Matthews, who lives in Porirua, told The New Zealand Herald he was devastated by her death.

He was trying to get a flight for the funeral which was probably a week away.

Sharidyn was the youngest victim of the shooting.
