Meth ring busted in Hawke's Bay

Police say they have busted a "significant player" in the Hawke's Bay drug scene with the arrest of seven men and women allegedly involved in a methamphetamine supply ring.

The seven, aged from 25 to 49, appeared in Napier District Court today on charges including supplying methamphetamine, conspiracy to supply methamphetamine and possession for supply.

Five were remanded in custody to reappear next month.

A total of 30 police, including the armed offenders squad, searched six houses and four cars in Napier and Hastings yesterday.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Foster said the methamphetamine ring was a "substantial player" in the local drug scene.

A large amount of the drug was seized during the raids, as well as ecstasy pills, LSD and other substances.

Police also found several thousand dollars in cash and a loaded sawn-off shotgun.

"These people have been very active around Hawke's Bay and we believe we have brought some major meth dealing to a halt," Mr Foster said.
