The National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (Niwa) has a new chairman.
Auckland businessman Chris Mace had a "strong interest and experience in science and conservation, particularly in the marine environment," chief executive John Morgan said.
Mr Mace has chaired the Crown Research Institute ESR and the New Zealand Antarctic Institute.
He replaces Sue Suckling, who has been chairwoman since 2001.
