Police are looking for public help to identify a female pedestrian who was killed when she was struck by a train in west Auckland this afternoon.
The Asian woman, aged between 50 and 70, was killed when she was struck about 12.55pm by an eastbound passenger train at Totara Ave, near the New Lynn train station.
Senior Sergeant Anthony Edwards said the woman was wearing a floral top, light green track trousers and blue sneakers.
"Police would like to hear from any person who witnessed the incident or knows of a woman fitting the description that can not be currently accounted for."
Anyone with information is asked to contact Waitemata police.
Both road and rail traffic experienced delays following the woman's death.
An eye witness told the Stuff website it appeared the woman fell as she was trying to run across the tracks in front of the train.
Police said the barrier arms were down, the alarm was sounding and the crossing lights were flashing when the incident happened, the website reported.
