SH6 blocked after log truck rolls

Icy conditions in the South Island have caused a log truck to roll and another truck to jack-knife, blocking State Highway 6.

Police said the incidents occurred near Owen River, south of Nelson.

Logs spilled over the highway and the driver of the log truck was initially trapped in the cab following the crash about 3.30pm.

The driver has been airlifted to hospital.

The second truck has also blocked the highway after losing control on the stretch of road.

Motorists travelling south are advised the highway is expected to be closed for several hours and conditions were still "treacherous" on a number of the region's roads, police said.
