Two people have been killed and a third has been injured in a serious crash on State Highway 1 in South Waikato.
A truck and car collided about 1km south of the Tokoroa Golf Course about 8.30am.
A St John spokesperson said two people were dead and one had suffered moderate injuries.
Emergency services are at the scene.
The road is closed and police said diversions were in place northbound at Ongaroto Road and southbound at Campbell Road.
A witness who arrived at the scene after the crash said the truck and car were at the side of the road.
The car was "pretty munted", he said.
The witness did not yet know if it had been a head-on collision.
The stretch of road was a "black spot" and there had been previous serious crashes in the area, the witness said.
Ambulances had left the scene and police were at the crash site.
