Two flee scene of shooting

Two men shot another man in the leg at a Manukau house early today before fleeing, police say.

Emergency services were called to a property at Conifer Grove after a gunshot was heard about 2am, Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Pizzini said.

A 49-year-old man was was taken to Middlemore Hospital in a serious condition.

He had since improved and was in a stable condition, Mr Pizzini said.

"It is too soon to determine the motive for the shooting and police will be investigating all angles," Mr Pizzini said.

"However we are interested in hearing from anyone who may have seen a blue twin cab ute with a canopy in the Conifer Grove area any time before or after 2am."

It was understood two men went into the property and shot the victim before fleeing in the ute.

Police were continuing their inquiries today.
