A woman's safety helmet may have saved her from serious injury when she fell in the Copland pass area of Aoraki Mount Cook National park today.
The Department of Conservation Alpine Rescue Team was flown to the site at 12.30pm and recovered the 48-year-old Wanaka woman.
Team leader David Winterburn said the woman had slid 150 metres down a steep snow slope and hit rocks at the base.
She had suffered moderate injuries and been airlifted to Christchurch Hospital.
Mr Winterburn said damage to the woman's helmet indicated she may have suffered more serious injuries had she not been wearing it.
