Woman's body at beach identified

The body of a woman found at a Bay of Plenty beach has been identified.

She was 54-year-old Marama Lloyd, from Otaki, also known as Marama Greeks.

A member of the public discovered the body on Morice's Bay beach in Torere, near Opotiki, and called police just before 7pm yesterday, a police spokeswoman said.

Though the police investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death is ongoing, it is not thought to be suspicious.

The death would be referred to the Coroner.

Our journalists are your neighbours

We are the South's eyes and ears in crucial council meetings, at court hearings, on the sidelines of sporting events and on the frontline of breaking news.

As our region faces uncharted waters in the wake of a global pandemic, Otago Daily Times continues to bring you local stories that matter.

We employ local journalists and photographers to tell your stories, as other outlets cut local coverage in favour of stories told out of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
