Tensions over a pet pig running wild in Dunedin reached breaking point when a group of hammer-wielding men allegedly began threatening vehicles and property.
The pet pig was an ongoing issue as it appeared to be “regularly on the loose” in Corstorphine, Acting Senior Sergeant Iain Notman, of Dunedin, said.
This problem had since escalated into a “Facebook feud” that culminated this week in one man being arrested for posting threatening comments.
Police received several calls to Crammond Ave, Corstorphine, about 11.30pm on Monday.
A group of 4-5 men were allegedly threatening vehicle and properties with hammers.
“Upon investigation, this response by these males appears to be relating to [an] ongoing Facebook feud over a pet pig which is regularly on the loose,” Acting Snr Sgt Notman said.
A 36-year-old man was allegedly making threatening Facebook posts “over the pig owner's lack of control of his pig”.
The group of men with the hammers were not identified but suspected to be associated with the original threat-maker.
Police spoke with all parties involved.
One man was arrested for making threatening posts on Facebook, Acting Snr Sgt Notman said.
