Young man 'broke into shed to charge cellphone'

A young man told police he broke into a shed on a construction site in Blenheim to charge his cellphone.

Constable Michelle Stagg said the man had entered a vacant house on Saturday George to sleep for the night. He allegedly smashed a window on a shed at the construction site next door to get power to charge his cellphone, she said.

Neighbours saw him in the shed and called police who caught him after a short chase.

A 21-year-old beneficiary has been charged with two counts of burglary.
